De’Angelo H. Alexander is the School Director of Detroit Service-Learning Academy. Prior to his current role he was the Principal of David L. Mackenzie Elementary/Middle School, a DPS CD school serving grades Pre-K thru Eight. During Mr. Alexander’s term Mackenzie was one of the districts newest constructed buildings, opening in 2012. At Mackenzie Mr. Alexander served over 1,100 students, which made his school the largest Pre-K/MS in the state of Michigan. Considered a turnaround administrator, prior to his current appointment Mr. Alexander was given the charge to help turn a persistently failing school into a high performing school. Before Mr. Alexander jumped back into the day-to-day operations he was a Field Service Specialist (Consultant) for Pearson the largest education service provider in the world. In this role he proved to be an experienced and effective educator, knowledgeable of standards-based reform and school operations, he provided professional development skills and technical assistance to all school personnel. Preceding his work for Pearson, Mr. Alexander was introduced to the world of philanthropy at The Skillman Foundation located in Detroit, MI.  As an Education Program Officer he led the foundations work on one of their signature initiatives “Good Schools: Making the Grade” this initiative was created to award all schools public, private, parochial and charters that educated students at a high performing level. In 2008, the initiative awarded over $2,500,000 to 129 schools. Former to this position Mr. Alexander was a Senior Regional Director for an education service provider where he managed several schools and their budgets on a daily basis. Earlier De’Angelo was the founding leader of Stepping Stone Academy, located in Buffalo, NY.  Mr. Alexander set high standards for student achievement, provided leadership, direction and support to the implementation of the schools instructional program.


De'Angelo has championed one of the most efficient administration processes ultimately contributing to a transitioned school climate being a nurturing and positive environment for staff and students Mr. Alexander has worked vigorously at all levels of education toward moving our children into the next century of 'hands on' education.


De'Angelo has proven accomplishments in business development being, a co-founder of Paul Roberson Academy where he served as a lead teacher and managed day-to-day staff activities and operations, provided full-time instruction in math and reading courses for students, prepared daily lesson plans and charted instructor development and goals regularly.


De’Angelo H.  Alexander has also held the following positions:

  • Principal of Baylor-Woodson Elementary, in the Inkster School System,
  • Academy Director of the Detroit Edison Public School Academy, and
  • Teacher at Carter G. Woodson Elementary in Inkster School System


De'Angelo Alexander has 29 years of executive and administrative experience in education.  He holds a Master of Arts in Education Administration from Marygrove College, Detroit, MI and a BS in Education from Central State University, Wilberforce, OH.


De'Angelo Alexander was born in Hamilton, OH, has two children, his daughter Asya Da-Na and son De’Angelo II.
