Each year students from every grade level choose two different Service Learning topics that are integrated into their daily schedule. These topics allow students to take what they learn in the classroom and put them into practice in the real world. Participating in Service Learning fosters a relationship between students and the community and allows students to see the entire community as a place of learning.
This semester's Service Learning highlight comes from the seventh grade. The seventh-grade students chose to make hunger their service learning topic for the first semester. They have partnered with Forgotten Harvest to help provide much needed food for those in need. On October 17th, a group of students visited the Forgotten Harvest farm in Fenton and helped to harvest enough food to feed over 35,000 people in the Metro Detroit area. They are also running a canned food drive through 11/18/16, if you would like to donate contact Mr. Allen at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the front desk at 313-541-7619.
