electives

Students have opportunities to express their creativity through participation in visual arts, music, physical education, and world language classes.  All students participate in two of these four classes everyday per semester.

  • Visual arts programs introduce students to drawing, painting, collages and other artistic media through age-appropriate art curriculum.
  • Music classes provide students with experiences such as: singing, playing simple musical instruments, and learning basic music reading principles.
  • Students gain an appreciation for physical activity and sports in physical education classes while learning important health concepts.
  • Beginning in kindergarten, all students study Spanish, gaining an early understanding of linguistics, and beginning to see the world beyond their own neighborhood.
  • Beginning in fifth grade, students may elect to drop art and music classes to master an instrument instead.  Band students practice 45 minutes everyday, becoming proficient in playing an instrument, reading music, and performing as part of an ensemble.
Students in grades three through eight have scheduled computer literacy classes.
